This is just a diary of things we have done since we bought Mud really. Nothing more than a record of how it evolves during the time we own it. |
|
| We bought Mud from marks tey after seeing it on ebay on or very near to 29/8/06. The mileage was 146000 miles I would just like to use this space to say a huge thank you to all our friends who are helping with mud. Being on such a limited budget we couldnt possibly do this without all your help. I will try to add your names along with info about help you have given throughout the diary. Trudy Myself and the children just want you all to know how much we appreciate all your hard work. Thank You |

5 days after getting mud we went to the peterborough landrover fest. It was a good day out and a good run for the car. After looking round the stalls and displays for the day we went to try and find the off road site which was just a little way form the show grround. Anyway I couldnt see any signs so I pulled into a garage and asked some guy filling up at the pumps. It turned out to be Richard Hammond from top gear. He was real nice and said to follow them as they were going there also. When we got there I told the guy on the gate I had only had the car for a week and had never used 4 wheel drive in my life. What should I do. "ok" he said "sign here, pay £15 and then drive through those markers over there" so I did. We were a bit worried as when I looked in the mirror they were laughing. The markers were red which meant for experienced drivers. Well it was too late so we just went through in low ratio and diff locked. The guy was right though, the landrover did all the work and we had a fantastic time going round. We were totally amazed at what the car could do. Take a look at the off road days link. The first pictures are from peterborough. |

| The next outing was a pay and play day at Bures pit. I had spoken to someone on a forum and they said to go down and ask for them as they would show me the ropes. We packed our lunch and piled into mud, all very excited. When we got there the people were so helpful it was great. one guy took us round for half an hour or so and explained the basics of off road driving. He showed me how to cross ruts and not worry about the car driving sideways which the children loved. Then he made me start the car in gear without touching the pedals or steering wheel right at the edge of this big drop. The car just started up and drove itself down in total control. What an eye opener to what these vehicles are capable of. This turned out to be our first modification to Mud. Without trying, we managed to rip all the side steps right back. they were obviously to low and a pain so later that week we took them right off. I think it looks much better without them. the picture here shows the steps once Zak had jumped on them to try and straighten them up. |

| Next it was time to do some work on Mud and fortunately we got some major jobs done with the kind help of Alan and his friend Mark. I cant thank them enough for all their help and expertise. They suggested changing the timing belt and some bushes as well as a major service. When I spoke to some guy from Paddocks he advised changing the timing belt tensioner also. Anyway it turned out to be very good advice as the timing belt was being cut to peaces by a bent tensioner. I was very lucky this work had been undertaken when it was. I also purchased a poly bush set and some of the back bushes were replaced which cured a horrible knock which had been driving me nuts. Shortly after all this work had been done it was MOT time and she flew through the MOT with only one tyre needing to be replaced. I even managed to get an old army tyre fitted for a mere £20 what a result. Thanks again to all those who helped. |

| Early october 06 and I went to a pub meet for Essex Landrover Club in chelmsford. I had been invited by the Glass rep Ralph. He was very helpful and the other club members were so friendly. Anyway I decided to join and in the meantime we put our name down for a green lane day around Great Dunmow. We went off in two groups. 4 lwb and 5 swb vehicles. It was a brilliant day and thanks go to Ralph for organising the day and route and also to Phil and Dave for leading the way. We drove some lovely lanes and crossed a great ford. The children loved it and we met some really nice people all of whom are land rover mad. We cant wait till the next laning day which is hopefully being held later this month near Mildenhall. |
