The children love it and named it "MUD" |
Around the 28th of aug 2006 I finally bought a toy I have wanted for as long as I could remember.
It's a land rover 110 csw and has 12 (yes 12) seats.. Ok its old and it has some faults I will be the first to admit it does need work.
Having said that it was all I could afford and the work needed is only minor and as yet I don't think there is anything bad with the engine etc.
I guess time will tell.
Before you ask why would I want one of these things when there are so many nice 4 wheel drive vehicles on the road;
the answer is simple. I think they look great and tell me this - when you travel the world and go out into the middle of nowehere.
The Australian outback, the the wilds of Africa for example. What vehicles do you see? That's right good old land rovers.
They are supposed to go anywhere and when treated right they are said to go on for ever.
So I don't have any desires to go overland to Africa (well not just yet) but I would love to drive through englands beautiful countryside.
This country is covered with lanes which were once old byways and although many are in disrepair they are still legal rights of way.
So armed with a good map and a trusty 4x4 such as the land rover you can travel round the UK using very old byways
getting right into the heart of the countryside which is usually only seen by the farmers or ramblers.
Ok before you say we are destroying the planet and ruining the countryside let me point out that these
old land rovers run fine on biodiesel which is made from waste cooking oil so that answers the ozone question.
I know there are reports of 4x4 drivers ripping up lanes and destroying gates etc but to be honest it is only a very few who give the bad name the many.
I use to live and breathe motorbikes and when I went away camping I was turned off many camp sites for one reason only
"bikers were bad news" although I wore expensive equipment and had a lovely bike I was still tarred with the same brush as a hells angel wanna be.
My point being that not all 4x4 drivers are irresponsible and destroy their surroundings.
Most are fighting to keep the wonderful byways alive for generations to come.
So here is a kind of diary about my our hobby. As I do more work to the car or as I get into green lanes
I will add pictures so everyone can see what I am getting up to.
