Diary Page 4

Well what a turn of events in 2008.

Mid year I was speaking to a friend at school and he said he had a frontera and would like to go offroad with the kids. We went out on some lanes and the children had some great fun. A couple of weeks later he was offered a god price for the frontera and so he sold it. It was a shame as the children all got on so well and everyone seemed to have a great day but the offer was a good one "so ce la vie."

By chance late in 2008 around October time I mentioned off road lanes to another friend at my daughters school and he said he would love to try that sort of stuff. Well a week later he and his family got in our landy and went laning with us and the club. They loved it so much he imediately started to talk of buying a landy like ours. I thought it was just one of those ideas which would fade away but a couple of weeks later after many text messages asking me to look at landy's on ebay he sent me a text saying he had bought one. Funny thing was he had bought it from the same guy I had got mine from two years earlier. Gary's 110 is lovely - a bit tatty and in need of work but full of history and looking in my eyes very nice. It already had a 4 inch lift (we think) and has a great roofrack which gary loves to climb up on when ever he gets the chance :-) it has bullbars and large spot lights on the bars as well as on the roof rack. Then Gary tells me his friend and neighbour loved the new landy so much he decided he wanted one as well. Once again within a few weeks another 110 was purchased. Duncan got an older 110 which again needed work but he got it for a good price which was great. Duncan has named his landrover "The Blue Meanie" Gary has named his 110 "The Beast" and as everyone knows ours is simply called "Mud" for obvious reasons.

During the course of getting Gary's MOT he came across a mechanic called Paul who also loved landrovers and he also had an old 110 which he was getting ready for his MOT. This meeting was a godsend for Gary and all of us. Paul wanted guitar lessons from Gary and in return Paul worked on The Beast. We have all become good friends and we share our individual knowledge and help each other where we can. Its worked out great. Gary and I know computers, I know electrics and the Lanes and Gary knows electronics. Paul is the master mechanic and Duncan is not only a chef but has a wonderful airgun to shoot game which is something I want to get into. So you see four guys with various knowledge which works great within the group. Not only that but all our families seem to get on well and all enjoy the green lanes. What could be better hey.

During the course of conversations over the last month or two I mentioned Wales and the lanes, in particular "Strata Florida" which I was desperate to drive. The guys looked the lanes up and agreed they looked wonderful. Next thing I know Gary turns out to be a natural organiser and has set up a facebook page and a group called the Landy Gang. Dont laugh its just some guys having a mid life crisis or something and finding pleasure in offroad driving with their families and pets.

Gary has started to organise a holiday to Wales. We all agreed that next April 2009 would be good for us all and so we are all getting excited about a welsh trip which I have dreamt about ever since I bought Mud.

So I think that has bought me up to date with current events. I will hunt out photos to add to this diary very soon as it looks so much better with the odd picture. I will also update the laning pages with our trips and pictures.

I wonder if any one else actually looks at these pages? if you are reading this maybe you could email me to let me now what you think. email me.
